Kevin Kardon’s lawyer says a recent arrest for murder charges in Kentucky is “justified” after he told police he didn’t know the victim of the car accident that killed his client.
Kardon’s attorney, Jeff Koster, made the comment during a Wednesday news conference, saying his client was not aware of the man’s name when he was taken into custody.
Koster said the car crash on March 2, 2016, happened when he and his client were driving to a nearby bar, and the victim was not his client.
“The last man was a nice guy.
He didn’t have any weapons, he didn´t even have a weapon in the car, and he didn`t even know him.
That wasn’t even a question, that wasn’t a reason,” Koster told the New York Daily News.
The Kentucky attorney general’s office told The Associated Press on Tuesday it had not charged Kardon in the fatal car crash, but that a judge had given it permission to pursue charges.
“The investigation into this case is ongoing,” Kentucky Attorney General Chris Koster’s office said in a statement.
“We are not releasing any further information at this time.”
Kardon, who played the character of Sam Wilson on the NBC sitcom “The Office,” was arrested March 1 and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
His trial was set to begin on Thursday.
