The Trump lawyer who sued the President for defamation after he accused him of committing sexual assault has filed a $100 million lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
The suit, filed Friday in the District Court in Washington, is the latest in a series of lawsuits that have accused Trump of sexual assault, fraud and defamation for allegedly defaming his accusers.
Wright, a former lawyer for Trump’s presidential campaign, filed the lawsuit in response to a federal class-action lawsuit brought by former Trump University students and their families.
Trump’s legal team has said the lawsuit is unrelated to the sexual-harassment allegations.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages, and also seeks to get the defamation verdicts tossed.
The lawsuit alleges that Trump, in one of his first public statements since his election as president, said that his accuser “never wanted to come forward” and that she “did not want to come to the United State of America because of the threat of deportation and the fear that she would be detained, deported, and imprisoned.”
The lawsuit argues that Trump’s statements “were based upon false and defamatory statements made by Mr. Wright, and did not reflect the true sentiments of Mr. Trump and his family,” the suit says.
“The plaintiff has never intended to cause harm to Mr. Manafort and Mr. Ryan, or to falsely and maliciously cause the loss of business profits and reputation,” the lawsuit says.
The Trump legal team did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
Trump has denied all the accusations in the lawsuit, but his lawyer has argued that the president and his wife Melania are victims in the defamation lawsuit.
In a tweet, Wright’s lawyer wrote that “the Trump family was not the subject of the lawsuit.”
He did not say who filed the suit, but it was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
In a separate lawsuit filed Friday, the Trump campaign’s lawyer said that Wright, who has represented Manafort, Ryan and a number of other Trump campaign officials, had filed the complaint because he wanted to be “vindicated” for the $100m that Manafort had already invested in the case.
In an earlier lawsuit, the family of former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who also sued Trump, also accused Trump and Manafort of defamation.
Lewandowski’s lawsuit was filed in March.
